Tips for the Eco-Friendly Pet Owner

Happy Earth Day! Today, we celebrate our amazing planet, and who better to share it with than our furry companions? Being a pet owner is a joy, but it can also have an impact on the environment. Here are some tips to keep your pet happy and healthy, while showing love for our planet too:

1) Look for planet-friendly pet food

Consider brands that use sustainable ingredients for your pet’s meal. Meat production, especially beef, has a negative environmental impact. Consider lower-impact options like chicken or sustainable fish sources. Also, look for companies that use recycled packaging.

2) Make your own treats

You can create healthy, tasty pet treats at home with a little research and some simple ingredients like peanut butter or yogurt. This is a great way to ensure what ingredients you feed your dog and you can also avoid unnecessary packaging while saving money.

3) Pick up poop responsibly

To be eco-friendly, make sure to scoop your pet’s poop with biodegradable bags or compost it whenever possible. Disposing of waste properly will help keep the water and the ground clean.

4) Skip the plastic

Skip the plastic toys and unleash your creativity by making toys from recycled materials like old socks or cardboard boxes. If buying new toys, look for those made from recycled materials like hemp or organic cotton which are more gentle on the planet. When searching for food/water bowls, shop for stainless steel bowls instead of disposable or plastic ones.

5) Get rid of the harsh chemicals

Many pet shampoos contain harsh chemicals that can harm the environment. Make sure to look for all-natural, eco-friendly alternatives when shopping. When searching for pet-friendly cleaning products we also suggest that you look for all-natural, eco-friendly options. This will be a healthier option for you, your pet, and the planet!

6) Get moving

Enjoy Earth with your pet, especially on Earth Day! Opt for walking or running with your dog today instead of using gas-powered transportation. Your pup will thank you!

By making these small changes, you can be a responsible eco-friendly pet owner. Let's all do our part to leave a pawsitive impact on the planet for our pets (and future generations) to enjoy!
